Israel Lazarus MombachBorn in Pfungstadt, Germany, he began his musical studies in 1828 with Enoch Eliasson of London. For some years he has been a chorister with Simon Ascher of the London Great Synagogue and later became choir director there, a position he held for twenty-five years. Mombach taught hazzanut at Jews’ College and conducted concerts at the Jewish Workingmen’s Club. Mombach’s music was widely performed in the German synagogues of England and the English colonies and he became most influencial. His sacred musical compositions for the entire yearly cycle entitled Ne’im Zemirot Yisrael was published in 1881. He died in London in 1880 With thanks to The Feher Jewish Music Center |
